Melanie Maz has taught violin and piano lessons for 10+ years in California
and Massachusetts, at music and community schools, workshops, music stores,
music academies, and her home studio. Her students have been of all ages (from
4 to 60+ yrs old) and levels, including child and adult beginners, adult amateurs,
serious students preparing for careers in music, and students just looking
to play for their own enjoyment. Although classically trained herself, Melanie
has taught students all styles of written music. Melanie has taught group
piano lessons and coached student chamber music ensembles. In addition to
teaching at her home studio, Melanie teaches private lessons at the Haggerty
Community School, the Fletcher
Maynard Academy, Cambridgeport
Community School, and the New
School of Music in Cambridge. She also teaches group violin classes for
the Belmont Public School's Saturday School Music program.
Melanie
studied violin and piano lessons for more than 20 years and has performed
in music festivals, chamber music ensembles, orchestras and recitals her whole
life. She received a BA in Music and Communicationa, with Distinction and
Honors, from Goucher College,
where she was a recipient of the Rosenberg Music scholarship and an active
member of the music community. Locally, she has performed with the Longwood
Symphony, the Brahms Society Orchestra, New England Philharmonic, and the
Longy Summer Orchestra. Currently, she plays in the Newton
Symphony, Boston Neo-politan
Orchestra, and the Serenata
Chamber Musicians. Melanie also performs at weddings and other events,
either solo or with a small ensemble.
